Munch and Move

Munch & Move is NSW Health initiative that supports the healthy development of children birth to 5 years by promoting physical activity, healthy eating and reduced small screen time (e.g. watching TV or DVDs, playing on computers and small hand-held games devices).

Physical Learning Environment

Our physical learning environments are characterised by both indoor and outdoor learning spaces that:

  • Are flexible
  • Are welcoming and accessible
  • Reflect the diversity of families within the local community and broader community
  • Facilitate easy access to nappy changing, toileting and hand washing facilities
  • Are environmentally sustainable
  • Offer a range of activities and experiences which promote discovery, exploration, creativity and challenge.

We group children in ways which:

  • Minimise risk of injury
  • Minimise conflict between children e.g. when providing resources for individual children
  • Reduce prolonged expose to excess noise whilst providing opportunities for quiet, more relaxed times
  • Promote children’s learning and development

Indoor environments.

Our Indoor spaces are open spaces which provide children with opportunities to work on self- selected activities, engage in a multitude of experiences which allow for creativity, value self expression and promote active learning. Our indoor experiences are both small- group and whole- group experiences. An opportunity for one- on- one interaction is also evident at Chilverleigh. Our spaces reflect children’s different cultures, interests, abilities and learning styles.

Outdoor environments

Our outdoor spaces are characterised by both active and quiet zones that comprise of moveable equipment which is regularly rotated and selected in conjunction with children’s current interests and abilities. Our outdoor spaces are open and allow for flexibility and free play. Our spaces promote investigation and respect for the natural environment. These spaces are dynamic, complement indoor activities and offer opportunities to be active, messy and noisy.
